Doctor's Orders

I have a splendid, smart, and serious doctor that cares deeply about his patients.  I shared with him that my wife and I still had some important things to do in our book of life and we needed to be here to do them.

We talked about my health markers, such as blood pressure, heart calcium score, cholesterol, A1C three-month blood sugar, and weight.  He talked about how inflammation and cholesterol are the combination for plugged arteries, and how blood sugar impacts inflammation.  We had a very serious, smart, and informative 30-minute conversation.  We talked about the practical things that I can do to optimize my health and longevity.  A doctor and an engineer discuss the key variables of a healthy life.  We should have recorded that.  He did not smile the whole time.  He was not gruff, but was there to be a great doctor, not to make a new coffee mate.

At the end I told him that his signature goodness was how much he cares about his patients.  He has to know that about himself, but sometimes we forget our own signature sauce.  He concluded by saying and typing into his laptop on his roll-around cart, that he would order a complete blood panel.

He informed me that the blood laboratory was on the first floor.  I asked him if I needed a slip of paper to bring down to the professional blood lady.  He said, “No, once I enter it the information automatically goes to them.”  I responded, “Like McDonalds.”  He smiled.  He laughed.  He was obviously amused.   He responded, “Yeah, you could say this is my kiosk.”  We both had a good chuckle.

He is a really good man. I am grateful for him.

Because we still have contributions to make and we have to be here for that.
